Q&A WITH KRISTA
What is something no one would believe is true about you?
That my dream job in college was to be a professional mountain guide and mid-career at age 45, I got to direct a wilderness program for three summers.
What organization or company inspires you?
I am inspired by the revolutionary instructional practices of Expeditionary Learning (EL Learning). This is the model that we integrated into the Doulos Discovery School – inviting students to engage in real work that meets real needs for real people. Kids actually LOVE learning this way!
What are you a ravingfan of?
This won’t surprise those that know me well, but I am a huge fan of Young Life. This is the organization I’ve been a part of since I was 14 years old. It is a simple model that works in any culture and in over 100 countries worldwide: go to kids, build bridges of authentic friendship, and introduce them to Jesus Christ. Young Life is where I learned to serve and to lead. It has deeply impacted all my roles professionally.
What are you doing when you feel most like you?
I’m outside on my bicycle exploring a new path.
In an alternate life, what would you want to give a try?
I always wanted to be a helicopter pilot . Or an orthopedic surgeon.
What are you passionate about related to the work you do and serving others?
I love that my work with Elevate USA encompasses many of my loves: teaching, mentoring, adventure, and college & career development with students. AND I get to train powerful staff from around the US to work in some of our most challenging public high schools. Equipping and encouraging others to live into their God – callings.
What is the best part of your story so far?
That I am still married to my best friend and that we truly enjoy our family. And the amazing home that Chad designed for us
